Love Shack Unites Pop's S Club, Steps & Hear'Say

In the upcoming compilation musical Love Shack, audiences will get not one, not two but three pop stars for their money. S Club’s Jon Lee, Steps’ Faye Tozer (pictured) and Hear’Say’s Noel Sullivan will all star in the new musical, which receives its world premiere at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on 28 February 2005 (previews from 24 February, continuing to 5 March), ahead of an extensive UK-wide tour.

Love Shack’s pop quotient is ratcheted up higher still with the addition of the single “Sometimes Never Always”, written especially for the show by former Take That star, Gary Barlow. It’s one of the evening’s 25 songs, which also includes all-time chart favourites such as “It’s Raining Men”, “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”, “Music to Watch Girls By”, “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Go West”.

In Love Shack, Sam and Joanne are about to get married – if only they survive their stag and hen nights first. The show is created by Kim Gavin (the choreographer of arena tours for Take That and Pop Idol and creator of stage musical Oh What a Night), written by Danny Peak and produced by Tristan Baker and Michael Harrison.

Though best known for success with their various bands, Lee, Tozer and Sullivan have all chalked up stage experience since their pop heydays. Lee had an extended run in the West End production of Les Miserables, for which he was nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Takeover in a Role. Tozer toured this year in Tell Me on a Sunday and Sullivan has appeared in Fame and Grease.

Following Manchester, Love Shack will continue, until 25 June 2005, to Southampton, Nottingham, Dartford, Leeds, Darlington, Birmingham, York, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol, Liverpool, Oxford and Cambridge, with further dates still to be announced.
