Suchet Co-star Goodey Commits Suicide, Age 32Date: 9 September 2004
Stage actress Fritha Goodey (pictured) was found stabbed to death in her west London flat yesterday (8 September 2004) following an apparent suicide.
The 32-year-old’s father Glenn discovered his daughter, who left a note, and called an ambulance. The actress was pronounced dead at the scene in St Charles Square, Notting Hill.
Goodey was about to appear alongside David Suchet and David Yelland in the upcoming revival of Terence Rattigan’s Man and Boy. The production, directed by actress-turned-director Maria Aitken, is scheduled to open at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on 22 September before touring to eight further venues up to 27 November (See News, 11 Aug 2004).
In recent years, Goodey frequently appeared on stage with Out of Joint and at the National Theatre. Her credits included Some Explicit Polaroids, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Remembrance of Things Past and last year’s pairing of She Stoops to Conquer and A Laughing Matter, which had a season at the National as part of extensive UK-wide tour.
Toby Whale, head of casting at the National, said: “Fritha was an exceptionally talented young actress with an already established career spanning theatre, TV and film in both contemporary and classical roles. Everyone who knew her will be shocked and saddened.”
Goodey’s screen credits included About a Boy with Hugh Grant and, on television, When I’m 64, The Lost Prince, Sherlock, The Red Phone, Hearts and Bones and Dr Willoughby.
