Notes from NY Returns with Thornhill at Trafalgar

As previously tipped (See The Goss, 4 Aug 2004), Notes from New York, the West End platform for contemporary US musical theatre, will return for its fourth concert this autumn. Following its Independence Day performance on 4 July at the Arts theatre (see News, 30 Apr 2004), the one-off evening visits the newly refurbished Trafalgar Studios on Sunday 19 September 2004.

The concert will showcase the work of composers Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins, Myths & Hymns), Tony award nominee Michael John LaChuisa (The Wild Party, Marie Christine, Hello Again) and John Bucchino (The Lavender Girl, Urban Myths).

Material featured in the new Notes from New York will include songs from Guettel’s new musical The Light in the Piazza (which have never been performed outside the USA) as well as selections from LaChiusa’s repertoire and an introduction to Bucchino’s work (which has been recorded by Barbara Cook and Liza Minnelli amongst others).

Olivier award nominee Rebecca Thornhill (pictured) who is currently starring as Roxie Hart in Chicago headlines September’s Notes. She is joined by Stephen Weller – best known for his portrayal of the title role Martin Guerre, newcomer Ashleigh Gray who recently made her debut in the tour of Taboo and Oliver Tompsett who is currently appearing in Mamma Mia!.

Notes from New York is directed by David Randall, with musical staging by series co-founder Paul Spicer. The series is produced by Neil Eckersley.
