Steam Scoops Open-Air Agamemnon & Androcles

Steam Scoops Open-Air Agamemnon & Androcles

Date: 30 July 2004

Following the success of last year’s three-week run of Oedipus staged in The Scoop (See News, 10 Jul 2003) - a new amphitheatre space created alongside the new Norman Foster-designed, riverside headquarters of the Greater London Assembly – the company Steam Industry are back on the banks of the Thames with two new free open-air productions.

Aeschylus’ ancient Greek tragedy Agamemnon and George Bernard Shaw’s Roman comedy Androcles and the Lion will be performed in repertory, running Thursdays to Sundays only until 5 September. Agamemnon opens tomorrow (Saturday 31 July, previews from 29 July), while Androcles opens on 7 August (previews from 5 August).

The productions are directed once again by Phil Willmott and designed by Alex Marker, with costumes by Jennifer Perkins, puppets by Yvonne Stone and lighting by Hansjorg Schmidt.

The cast are Amy Ip, Amy Rockson, Bea Holland, Edward Jaspers, Emma Manton, Joe Fredericks, Kerry Skinner, Matthew Hodson, Nicholas Osmond, Nicola Delaney, Nick Smithers, Olivia Macdonald, Paul Critoph, Phil Sealey, Phil Willmott, Richard Gofton, Robert Donald, Scott Harvey, Stewart Alexander and Tom Hambleton. The season is presented by Suzanna Rosenthal and The Steam Industry.
