When Harry Met Sally Closes at Haymarket, 4 Sep
Date: 9 July 2004

The stage version of When Harry Met Sally will close at the West End’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on 4 September 2004, the end of its current booking period, after a run of seven months.

The stage adaptation of the romantic comedy had its world premiere on 20 February 2004 (previews from 10 February) with Beverly Hills 90210’s Luke Perry and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Alyson Hannigan taking on the title roles immortalised by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan on screen. A new cast led by fellow Hollywood imports Molly Ringwald (Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club and Michael Landes (Lois and Clark) took over on 2 June 2004 (See News, 17 May 2004).

In Rob Reiner's 1989 film, Harry and Sally, one-time college classmates, move to New York and, over many years, hate each other, become friends and, against their own better judgments, eventually fall in love. Playwright Marcy Kahan adapted the original Nora Ephron screenplay for the stage.

The current West End cast also features Britons Dexter Fletcher (Press Gang, The Rachel Papers, Bugsy Malone, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Band of Brothers on screen) and Susannah Wise (Three Sisters, Sanctuary, Life After George on stage) as Harry and Sally’s best friends Jack and Marie.

When Harry Met Sally is directed by Loveday Ingram and designed by Ultz, with lighting by Nigel Edwards, sound by John Owens, and music by British jazz musicians Jamie and Ben Cullum. It’s produced by James Tod.
