Pellow Adds Extra Week to London Chicago Pre-NY

Marti Pellow (pictured), who is currently reprising his role as super-slick lawyer Billy Flynn in the West End production of Chicago, has added extra performances to his pre-Broadway run.

Pellow’s limited season at London’s Adelphi Theatre was originally scheduled to finish this Saturday (19 June 2004), but will now continue for an extra week, with his last performance now taking place on Saturday 26 June. The singer-turned-stage actor then travels to New York where he will star in the Broadway production of the Kander and Ebb musical from 2 August to 5 September 2004.

From Monday 21 June, Pellow is joined by Rebecca Thornhill (Ragtime, Full Monty, Singin' in the Rain) as Roxie Hart and Anita Louise Combe (Hello Again, Sunset Boulevard) as Velma Kelly. They will continue in their roles until 25 September 2004. Pellow’s replacement has not yet been announced.

Pellow, the former lead singer from Wet Wet Wet, made his theatrical stage debut in the West End Chicago in June 2002 (See News, 10 Jun 2002), after which he also appeared in the show on tour in Manchester, Dublin, Liverpool, Glasgow, Birmingham and Tokyo.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Pellow had 12 British Top Tens with Wet Wet Wet, including "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Goodnight Girl" and the mega-hit "Love Is All Around" from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. Since leaving the band in 1999, Pellow has released two solo albums, Smile and Between the Covers, and embarked on multiple UK tours.

Chicago, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Rick Clarke. Musical supervision is by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Gareth Valentine. The production is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.

The musical opened at the West End's Adelphi Theatre in November 1997 and went on to win the 1998 Olivier for Outstanding Musical Production and the 1998 Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Chicago is currently booking until 13 November 2004.
