Landes, Fletcher & Wise Join Harry Met Sally Cast

Hollywood’s Michael Landes (pictured) will play Harry to Molly Ringwald’s Sally in the new West End cast of When Harry Met Sally. From 2 June 2004, the pair take over from original stars Luke Perry and Alyson Hannigan in the screen-to-stage comedy which is now booking, with a revised performance schedule, up to 4 September 2004 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (See News, 13 May 2004). A new press performance will be held on 15 June.

Landes, who makes his West End debut in When Harry Met Sally, is best known for his American television work in the likes of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (in which he played Jimmy Olsen), The Wonder Years, thirtysomething, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Drew Carey Show, Man Ray Ultra Spy and Special Unit 2. Landes’ films include Getting Personal, Hart’s War and Final Destination 2.

The recast production of When Harry Met Sally will also feature Britons Dexter Fletcher (Press Gang, The Rachel Papers, Bugsy Malone, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Band of Brothers on screen) and Susannah Wise (Three Sisters, Sanctuary, Life After George on stage) as Harry and Sally’s best friends Jack and Marie.

Rob Reiner's 1989 film of When Harry Met Sally starred Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as one-time college classmates who move to New York and, over many years, hate each other, become friends and, against their own better judgments, eventually fall in love. Playwright Marcy Kahan adapted the original Nora Ephron screenplay for this premiere stage production.

The premiere stage production is directed by Loveday Ingram and designed by Ultz, with lighting by Nigel Edwards, sound by John Owens, and music by British jazz musicians Jamie and Ben Cullum. It’s produced by James Tod.

As part of the new schedule from 2 June, there will no longer be Monday evening performances or Thursday matinees. Instead, When Harry Met Sally will run Tuesday to Thursday evenings at 8.00pm, Fridays at 5.30pm and 8.30pm, Saturdays at 5.00pm and 8.00pm and Sundays at 3.00pm.

Today’s announcement of the new cast follows the cancellation of tonight and tomorrow night’s performances of When Harry Met Sally following an accident at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Saturday night (See Today’s Other News).
