Julia Stiles Makes Stage Debut in Mamet’s Oleanna
Date: 13 February 2004

As previously tipped (See The Goss, 12 Dec 2003), Hollywood actress Julia Stiles (pictured) will make her West End debut this spring. She’ll star - along with fellow screen star Aaron Eckhart - in a new production of David Mamet’s Oleanna, which will open for a limited season at the Garrick Theatre on 22 April 2004, following previews from 15 April (booking has not yet opened).

In Mamet’s two-hander about political correctness, Stiles plays an American university student who, when faced with failing a course, accuses her male professor of sexual harassment. In 1993, the Royal Court premiere of Oleanna, directed by Harold Pinter, had Lia Williams performing opposite David Suchet, while the 1994 film starred Debra Eisenstadt and William H Macy.

The new stage production will be directed by Lindsay Posner, who last year revived Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago in the West End with an equally high-profile cast that featured FriendsMatthew Perry and Minnie Driver.

Stiles’ many films include 10 Things I Hate About You, The Business of Strangers, State and Main, Save the Last Dance, The Bourne Identity and, soon to released in the UK, Mona Lisa Smile, while Eckhart has been seen on screen in Paycheck, Possession, Nurse Betty, Erin Brockovich and In the Company of Men.

Oleanna is presented in the West End by Edward Snape for Fiery Angel, Clare Lawrence and Anna Waterhouse for Out of the Blue - the company behind This Is Our Youth with its rota of Hollywood young guns – in association with Theatreshare plc.

NOTE: Booking has not yet opened for this production.
