Rep's Of Mice & Men Re-opens at Old Vic, 3 Feb

Date: 5 January 2004

Birmingham Rep’s acclaimed revival of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men will return next month for a second West End engagement. The production ended a limited seven-week season at the Savoy Theatre on 6 December 2003 and will now reopen on 3 February 2004 at the Old Vic, where it’s booking up to 3 April.

Written in 1937, Steinbeck's classic novel, which he later adapted for the stage, is set in California during the Great Depression. It follows two displaced characters, Lennie and George, as they seek the ever-elusive American Dream.

At the Savoy, Of Mice and Men starred Stars in Their Eyes presenter Matthew Kelly and George Costigan, who also led the show’s tour last spring and are expected to transfer to the Old Vic. The production has been nominated for two Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards – Best Actor for Kelly and London Newcomer of the Year for Joanne Moseley. (Click here to vote!)

The production is directed by Birmingham artistic director Jonathan Church and designed by Simon Higlett, with lighting by Tim Mitchell and music by John Tams. It originally played to sell-out audiences at Birmingham in November 2001. The new production is co-produced by Birmingham Rep in association with the Touring Consortium.
