Paul Kaye
Paul Kaye
Pennis Kaye & Montgomery Attend West End Dinner
Date: 31 October 2003

Full casting has now been confirmed for the West End transfer of Moira Buffini's black comedy Dinner, which will run at Wyndhams Theatre from 9 December 2003 to 3 April 2004, following previews from 3 December (See News, 16 Oct 2003).

Dinner premiered last November in the National Theatre's Lyttelton Loft, a 100-seat studio specially created for the NT's five-month Transformation season, which was extended to accommodate the production directed by the playwright's sister Fiona Buffini. The play was nominated for a 2003 Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Award for Best New Comedy.

To the dinner of the title, Paige has invited an artist, a scientist and a sexpot to celebrate the publication of her husband's bestseller. The arrival of Mike, marooned in the foggy lane having crashed his van, provides an unexpected addition to the evening's entertainment. A silent waiter, sourced from an obscure website, completes the picture. Primordial Soup is first on the menu...

Nicholas Farrell (The Lady in the Van) will reprise his role as the author, alongside, as previously announced, Harriet Walter as Paige and Penny Downie as the artist.

New to the seven-strong cast are: Paul Kaye (pictured - best known for his ginger-haired Sunday Show character Dennis Pennis and other television roles in Acres of Sky, Perfect World and Spaced), Flora Montgomery (seen on the London stage earlier this year opposite Jonathan Pryce in A Reckoning), Adrian Lukis (Sleep with Me) and Paul Sirr (Marat/Sade, Wild Oats).

Currently at Wyndhams, the season of stand-up continues with Bill Bailey (to 25 October) and Lenny Henry (from 10 to 29 November). Currently filling the hole left at Wyndhams by the departure of Michael Barrymore last month, Jessie Matthews musical Over My Shoulder finishes its 16 performances only on 8 November 2003 (See News, 19 Sep & 9 Oct 2003), and is followed by stand-up Lenny Henry from 10 to 29 November.
