Opening: Tales & Wait Until Dark for Lepage MoonDate: 13 October 2003
Amongst the major London openings taking place this week are:
OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 13 October 2003, comedian Bill Bailey continues the stand-up season at the West End's Wyndhams Theatre with his one-man show Part Troll. Picking up the slack after Michael Barrymore's hasty departure last month (See News, 19 Sep 2003), Bailey has extended his season to 25 October 2003, which will be followed by return performances of Lenny Henry.
OPENING TUESDAY, 14 October 2003 (previews from 24 September), Richard Jones' revival of Odon Von Horvath's 1931 German epic Tales from the Vienna Woods, in a new version by David Harrower, completes the schedule in the National's much-heralded £10 Olivier season, sponsored by Travelex. Frances Barber (Closer, Closer to Heaven, Insignificance on stage) is joined in the cast by Darrell D'Silva (Absolutely! perhaps) and Nicola Walker. The productions continues in repertory up to 19 November 2003.

OPENING WEDNESDAY, 15 October 2003 (previews from 30 September), at the West End's Garrick Theatre, is a new revival of Frederick Knott's 1966 thriller Wait Until Dark, which stars Peter Bowles as a conman who terrorises Saskia Wickham's blind Susy one night. Television's Gary Mavers and Tony Scannell also feature in the production directed by Joe Harmston and previously seen at Windsor's Theatre Royal (See News, 12 Sep 2003).

OPENING THURSDAY, 16 October 2003, Robert Lepage's highly acclaimed The Far Side of the Moon (pictured) returns to London for a limited season at the Barbican as part of BITE:03, where it's now performed by Yves Jacques. The piece - in which Lepage recalls the Soviet-American space race and the conveys his obsession with all things lunar - was last seen at the National Theatre two years ago, winning the Evening Standard award for Best New Play and the Critics Circle Award for Best Director. At the Barbican, it continues until 25 October 2003.
