Arts Premieres New York Works by Lippa & Brown
Date: 9 October 2003

West End stars Shona Lindsay and Paul Spicer will star in Notes from New York, a celebration of contemporary US musical theatre, and in particular rising Broadway stars Jason Robert Brown and Andrew Lippa (pictured). The one-night only event will take place at the West End's Arts Theatre on Sunday 2 November 2003.

The cabaret evening will feature a number of UK and European premiere pieces, as well as a preview of material from Lippa's new musical A Little Princess, which is due to receive its world premiere on Broadway in 2004.

Jason Robert Brown's first musical, the Whatsonstage.com Award-winning Songs for a New World, originally opened Off-Broadway in 1995 before receiving its UK premiere at London's Bridewell Theatre in 2001. Robert Brown made his Broadway debut in 1999 with Parade, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Original Score of a Musical. His most recent musical The Last Five Years premiered in New York last year.

Lippa's first musical John & Jen was also produced Off-Broadway in 1995. His most recent, The Wild Party, opened in 2000 at New York's Manhattan Theater Club, where it was nominated for 13 Drama Desk Awards, including Best New Musical. The Grammy-nominated Lippa contributed three brandnew songs to the Broadway revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and recently composed a song for the film Legally Blonde 2.

Lindsay (The Phantom of the Opera, Grease) and Spicer (The Witches of Eastwick, Fame, Taboo) will be joined on stage by Julie Atherton (Mamma Mia) and Damien Edwards (The Roy Orbison Story). The evening is directed by David Randall, with musical direction and arrangements by Danny Whitby and musical staging by Paul Spicer.
