Opening: Maths Tutor, Lord, SUNT & a Circus Romeo

Amongst the major London openings taking place this week are:

OPENING TONIGHT, Monday 29 September 2003 (previews from 25 September), at north London's Hampstead Theatre, is the world premiere of Clare McIntyre's The Maths Tutor, directed by Anthony Clark as the first production in his inaugural season as Hampstead's artistic director (See today's "Changing of the Guard" interview with Clark in Features). Starring Sally Dexter, the drama unfolds when JJ makes an accusation about his tutor that threatens numerous relationships. It continues until 25 October 2003 (See News, 6 Jul 2003).


OPENING TUESDAY, 30 September 2003, Michael Flatley's Irish dance spectacular Lord of the Dance, returns to London for two weeks only (to 11 October), the final dates in the UK leg of an extensive European tour. Flatley, who first achieved international fame with Riverdance, hung up his own clogs in 2001 but remains the creative director of this show which he devised and premiered in Dublin in 1996.


OPENING WEDNESDAY, 1 October 2003 (previews from 26 September), at the Young Vic, is a new Icelandic version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet which employs aerial trapeze and acrobatic choreography to dramatise the young lovers' tragic romance. Adapted by Hallgrimur Helgason and co-produced with Reykjavik's Theatre Vosturport, it continues in London until 25 October 2003 (See News, 12 Jun 2003).


OPENING THURSDAY, 2 October 2003 (previews from 17 September), the British premiere of Francis Veber's French comedy, translated by Ronald Harwood, See You Next Tuesday, is at the Albery Theatre. Irish comedian Ardal O'Hanlon, of Father Ted fame, makes his West End debut in the Robin Lefevre production which also features Nigel Havers, Patsy Kensit, Patrick Ryecart and Geoffrey Hutchings (See News, 23 Jul 2003).
