Paltrow & Fiennes Reunite for Shakespeare's Gala

Date: 1 August 2003

Shakespeare in Love film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes will be reunited by the bard this September. They're amongst a host of stars - also including Diana Rigg, Paul Scofield, Timothy West and Sanjeev Bhaskar - confirmed to take part in a special celebration of Shakespeare, in aid of The Prince's Trust. The charity gala, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, will be held on 1 September 2003 at Shakespeare's Globe.

The evening will include a medley of famous scenes from Shakespeare's best-known plays, performed by renowned international artists and interspersed with music from the English Chamber orchestra.

Amongst the scheduled selection will be scenes from Romeo and Juliet (performed by Paltrow and Fiennes), The Tempest (Scofield and West), A Midsummer Night's Dream (with Bhaskar, from TVs Goodness Gracious Me, as Bottom) and As You Like It (Rigg).

The Charity Gala will raise money for The Prince's Trust. Through practical support including training, mentoring and financial assistance, The Prince's Trust helps 14-30 year-olds to realise their potential and transform their lives. Since it was founded in 1976, The Prince's Trust has supported almost half a million young people.

Paltrow made her West End stage debut last year in Proof at the Donmar Warehouse, while Fiennes' most recent London stage outing was in Trevor Nunn's production of Love's Labour's Lost at the National.

After giving his King Lear for English Touring Theatre earlier this year, West has been flexing his directorial muscles with a touring production of HMS Pinafore. Rigg was last seen in London in the 2001 premiere production of Humble Boy.

Prices for the Shakespeare gala range from £20 for standing only to £300 for the full champagne reception, performance and dinner. Tickets are available from the Globe Website.
