Tap Dogs Dance Back to UK for New Nationwide TourDate: 7 March 2003
The all-male Australian dance troupe Tap Dogs returns to the UK this month for a new four-month tour. The show opens at the Theatre Royal Windsor on 26 March 2003 before continuing until mid-July to ten other venues, with further dates to be announced.
Dressed in Blundstone boots and jeans, the six muscly men of Tap Dogs tap, stomp, jump and splash their way through the show that combines workman poser with precision, high energy, and raw and raunchy routines.
Tap Dogs, started with six men from a steel town north of Sydney, had its world premiere at the Sydney Theatre Festival in January 1995 before receiving its European premiere at that year's Edinburgh Festival. Since then, the show has travelled the globe, winning a string of awards including a Pegasus Award at Italy's Spoleto Festival and an Obie Award in New York.
In 2000, the show returned home to Sydney to take part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games - 1,000 Tap Dogs from companies around the world performed live for a television audience of some 3.4 billion people. This past autumn the show was back in the UK for another two-month stint as part of its continuing world tour.
Tap Dogs was created by Olivier Award-winning choreographer Dein Perry and director Nigel Triffitt. It has original music by Andrew Wilkie, lighting by David Murray and lighting design by Gavin Norris. The show is produced in the UK by Clear Channel Entertainment.
The cast for the spring 2003 UK tour features Joshua Cyr, James Doubtfire, Christopher Erk, Christpher Ernest, Martyn Herbert, Nigel Long, Dean Magri and Douglas Mills, with live music performed by Mark Whiteman. Following Windsor, the production visits Salford, Bradford, Edinburgh, Eastbourne, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Darlington, Sheffield, High Wycombe and Torquay.
