2003 Laurence Olivier Winners Announced Today

Date: 14 February 2003

Winners of the 27th annual Laurence Olivier Awards, London's equivalent of the Tonys and the UK's most prestigious stage awards, are announced today at a star-studded lunchtime ceremony hosted by Clive Anderson and held at the West End's Lyceum Theatre, home of The Lion King.

Amongst the reported wins, already leaked following surprise presentations made earlier this week, are Best Actress in a Musical (for My Fair Lady's Joanna Riding) and a clutch of awards for former Donmar Warehouse artistic director Sam Mendes for his swansong double bill of Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night (See The Goss, 13 Feb 2003).

Winners in those and all of the other 23 categories - including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best New Musical and Outstanding Musical Production - will be posted here from midday today, with updates later this afternoon to include reporting direct from the event on acceptances speeches, audience reactions and pictures of the post prize-giving reception.

Today's ceremony will be broadcast on BBC2 television at 8.30pm on Saturday 15 February in an edited programme that combines the awards presentation with highlights of the past year in London theatre. This year's awards are sponsored by hotel group Hilton UK and Ireland.
