Adam Faith Returns to Stage with Love & Marriage

Adam Faith returns to the stage this month for the first time in more than seven years (See The Goss, 17 Oct 2002). He stars in a new Theatre Royal Bath production of Donald Churchill's comedy, Love and Marriage, which heads out on a three-month tour ahead of an expected West End transfer. The tour launches 21 January 2003 at Bromley's Churchill Theatre before continuing until mid-April to ten further venues.

Faith plays Bill, a golf-playing dentist and serial philanderer whose shenanigans with younger women means he lies to his long-suffering wife every day of his life. Trouble is, he asks his friend Tony to tell lies for him too, to cover for him, but Tony's having a mid-life crisis of his own.

Faith is a celebrity who's hard to pin down simply because he's done so much. Over the past six decades, his career has moved from pop singer to film star, TV actor, record producer, agent, journalist and even financial investment advisor.

In the late 1950s and 1960s, Faith had several chart hits, including "What Do You Want", "Poor Me", "Someone Else's Baby" and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home". His television credits include Budgie, Love Hurts (with Zoe Wanamaker) and The House That Jack Built and he's appeared in films such as Stardust, Yesterday's Hero, McVicar and Foxes. He was last seen on stage more than seven years ago in the West End production of Alfie.

The late Donald Churchill wrote over 40 plays, many of which had west End success in the 1980s. He also wrote television episodes of The Sweeney, Bulldog Breed and Armchair Theatre.

Love and Marriage is directed by Mark Clements and designed by Philip Witcomb with lighting by Chris Ellis. Following Bromley, the tour continues to Richmond, Bath, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Stratford, Stoke-on-Trent, Brighton, Guildford, Darlington and Malvern.
