The Full Monty Posts Closing Notices for 23 Nov

Date: 1 November 2002

Broadway transfer The Full Monty has posted early closing notices at the West End's Prince of Wales Theatre. Only a few weeks ago, the musical extended its booking period by six months to 6 September 2003. Instead, it will now close on 23 November 2002.

A hit on Broadway, The Full Monty received its West End premiere on 12 March 2002 (previews from 27 February), fronted by all-American stage stars including Jarrod Emick, John Ellison Conlee, Romain Fruge and Andre De Shields. When the Americans' contracts came to an end, an all-British cast - headed by Ben Richards, Paul Keating and Cornell John - took over from the beginning of September.

The musical is based on Peter Cattaneo's 1997 film The Full Monty although the story about out of work steelworkers has been transplanted from Sheffield to the American city of Buffalo, New York. The stage show was first seen in San Diego, California, before opening in October 2002 at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it closed earlier this year.

The Full Monty is the creation of American bookwriter Terrence McNally and composer David Yazbek. The West End production is staged by the entire Broadway creative team, headed by director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. It is designed by John Arnone, with costumes by Bob Morgan, lighting by Howell Binkley and sound by Mike Walker. Orchestrations are by Harold Wheeler, music dance arrangements by Zane Mark and musical direction by Ted Sperling. The UK musical director is Martin Lowe.
