Romeo & Elaine Stritch Pull Performances This Week
Romeo & Elaine Stritch Pull Performances This Week
Date: 28 October 2002

Two West End productions - Romeo and Juliet - The Musical and Elaine Stritch at Liberty - have announced last-minute cancellations this week.

Romeo and Juliet, which started previews at the Piccadilly Theatre on 18 October 2002 ahead of an opening on 4 November, has pulled this evening's performance due to now-ubiquitous "technical reasons", also the culprit behind the cancellation of its first three performances earlier this month.

The English-language version, with lyrics by Don Black and original music by Gerard Presgurvic, of the hit French musical stars newcomers Andrew Bevis and Lorna Want as well as recording artist Jane McDonald. It's directed by David Freeman and designed by David Roger. Performances resume tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, over at the Old Vic, the performance this Thursday (30 October 2002) of Elaine Stritch at Liberty has been cancelled because its star will be appearing on TV chat show Parkinson, filmed that evening and due to be aired next month. On Friday, producers announced an extension to the Tony Award-winning one-woman show's London run. Opened on 9 October 2002 (previews from 1 October) and originally booking to 23 November, the septuagenarian Stritch will now continue to 14 December.

With both shows, theatregoers who booked for the performances in question are being contacted and offered either refunds or exchanges. For further information, contact the Piccadilly box office on 020 7369 1734 and the Old Vic on 020 7369 1722.
