House & Day Cancel as Full, Daughter, Wife ExtendDate: 24 September 2002
Several London productions have chopped and changed schedules, most notably Our House, the musical based around the greatest hits of 1980s ska band Madness, which has delayed its opening for a second time.
The musical was originally schedule to receive its world premiere on 15 October at the West End's Cambridge Theatre, but in July, had the date pushed back to 21 October. The opening has now been delayed by another week, to 28 October, while several previews have been cancelled. Previews will now begin in Monday 7 October. The £2.5 million show features a book by playwright Tim Firth and is directed by Matthew Warchus with design by Rob Howell and choreography by Peter Darling.
Over at the West End's Comedy Theatre, On an Average Day, the two-hander about dysfunctional brothers played by Hollywood's Woody Harrelson and Kyle MacLachlan, has cancelled all mid-week matinee performances. There are also no performances of the show on Monday evenings, although theatregoers can attend afternoons on both Saturdays (3.00pm) and Sunday (4.00pm). The production is now booking to 3 November 2002, rather than the originally planned 27 October.
Meanwhile, a week has been added to runs two classic revivals - Somerset Maugham's The Constant Wife, starring Jenny Seagrove at the West End's Lyric Theatre, and DH Lawrence's The Daughter in Law at the Young Vic. The former is now booking to 12 October 2002, after which it will be followed by another Maugham revival - Home and Beauty, starring Jamie Theakston and Whatsonstage.com Award winner Victoria Hamilton. The latter, set during the 1912 miners' strike, will now continue to 19 October 2002.
And finally, the transfer of Broadway musical The Full Monty, which last night officially welcomed its new all-British cast - led by Ben Richards, Paul Keating and Cornell John - has added six months to its booking period. It's now taking bookings at the West End's Prince of Wales theatre up to 2 September 2003.
