Gangstars Circus Starts 22-City Tour in London

The Generating Company, the company behind the Millennium Dome show and last year's hit tour of Storm, returns to in April with a new acrobatic spectacular, Gangstars, which opens on 5 April 2002 at London's Circus Space ahead of a three-month, 22-city UK tour.

Drawing on a variety of influences - from film noir, Brechtian Berlin, Vaudeville and Capone's Chicago - Gangstars is set in a fictitious city during the American prohibition of the 1930s.

The story follows the adventures of an innocent immigrant new to the city and its inhabitants. As he steps off the boat, he's immediately thrown into a world of tumbling gangsters and flying floosies, and unwittingly becomes embroiled in gangland deception and intrigue, culminating in an aerial shoot out.

The show is directed by Sean Kempton, one of the four original company directors who created Storm, with music specially composed by Akintayo Akinbode, and designs by Mark Fisher, formerly the creative director of the Millennium Dome show. Gangstars is performed by an all-new cast of ten young circus performers.

The Generating Company's wide variety of work includes the aerial cabaret in Manumission throughout the summer season and appearances above Kylie Minogue in her recent LWT "Audience with.." show.

Gangstars continues at London's Circus Space until 14 April 2002 and then visits Jersey, Barnstaple, Truro, Cardiff, Hereford, Basingstoke, Durham, Croydon, Llandudno, Southampton, Brighton, Nottingham, Northampton, Cambridge, Salford, Dartford, Reading, Swansea, Cheltenham, Southend, High Wycombe and Norwich.
