Webb Relives Magic of the Musicals in 60 UK CitiesDate: 21 February 2002Marti Webb (pictured) once again heads the cast of The Magic of the Musicals, celebrating the best of musical theatre, now embarking on its tenth anniversary tour. This spring's 60-city tour launches tonight, 21 February 2002, at Edinburgh's Festival Theatre and continues until mid-May, with a penultimate stop in the West End at the London Palladium on 5 May 2002. The Magic of the Musicals brings together some of the most memorable songs written for the West End and Broadway, from show-stopping big-production numbers to heartrending ballads. Starting with "Another Opening, Another Show" from Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate, the evening takes in numbers from classics including Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Oliver!, Cats, Evita and My Fair Lady as well as more recent hits like Mamma Mia!, The Lion King and the upcoming adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. West End diva Webb is well known to theatre audiences for her many starring roles in the likes of Evita, Cats, Oliver!, Stop the World I Want to Get Off and Tell Me on a Sunday, which was written especially for her by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black. She is joined in The Magic of the Musicals by Robert Meadmore (The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma! and Camelot) along with a supporting cast of singer-dancers and an on-stage orchestra. The 2002 outing for The Magic of the Musicals is directed and choreographed by Brian Rogers, who has previously choreographed several Royal Variety Performances and TV specials as well as the opening of the EuroDisney theme park. - by Terri Paddock Related Content |
