Sleep Dashes to the Coliseum, One Week Only
Date: 25 June 1998
Dash to the London Coliseum, starring Wayne Sleep, will open on Monday 3 August for one week only. Sleep has brought together a full company of dancers to perform a broad programme ranging from classical ballet to modern choreography.
The company includes two acclaimed classical dancers and Royal Ballet guest stars - Thomas Edur and Agnes Oaks. Edur is winner of the 1994 Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Performance in Ballet and twice nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance. Oaks will perform a series of classical pas de deux from the best known ballets. Other highlights include the British debut of America's dance stars Melissa Wishinski and Timothy Melady.
The programme will also feature favourites such as Sleep's celebration of Torvill and Dean, his reworking of Swan Lake and the Sand Dance of Wilson, Keppel and Betty. Among the many British dance premieres in the programme will be Sleep's tribute to Princess Diana - an exact recreation of the now famous, though never publicly seen, duet that Sleep danced with the Princess at the Royal Opera House in 1985.
