Future of South Bank Dome Deferred

The Arts Council, due to decide yesterday the fate of the £113m Lottery bid to refashion the South Bank Centre, has deferred its decision yet again. In addition to the controversial glass dome to encase the entire centre, the project would include a £35m restoration of the Royal Festival Hall, renowned classical concert venue. The entire scheme is now under threat following predicted reductions in the overall National Lottery money to be made available to the arts. The council and centre issued a joint statement saying that 'the outstanding questions and issues related to the bid are being urgently addressed'.
