Royal Court Appoints New Director Date: 14 August 1997
The Royal Court Theatre, famous for its ground-breaking premieres, has appointed little-known Ian Rickson to the post of artistic director, one of the top three directorships in UK theatre (along with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company). Rickson, a former actor, has risen through the ranks of the Royal Court where he started in the youth theatre in 1991. During his time, he has directed award-winning productions such as Mojo and The Weir. Rickson succeeds acclaimed artistic director Stephen Daldry who is leaving to pursue a film career.
