Prudential Announces Arts Award
Date: 6 November 1997

Winners of the Prudential Awards for Arts 1997 were announced last week. They include Out of Joint theatre productions, the Almeida Opera, CandoCo dance company and COMA (Contemporary Music-making for Amateurs). The Awards acknowledge the best non-profit making arts organisations in the UK and offer them financial support to develop new and innovative work in their chosen art form. They are designed to reward excellence, creativity, innovation and accessibility in five different arts disciplines - dance, music, opera, theatre and visual arts. Each winner receives £50,000. Runners up receive £5,000 each, bringing the total money for the arts to £300,000 each year. 1997 marks the last year of the Awards in their current form. Prudential has asked ABSA to review and develop a future awards programme.
