Chichester Board Shake-Up May Aid Recovery Date: 26 December 1997
Just days before Christmas, the entire board of the troubled Chichester Festival Theatre resigned, leaving the way for a new body to take control of the troubled English South Coast theatre, which was teetering on the brink of insolvency. Chichester has been noted in the past for its star-studded summer seasons -- in 1997 featuring Kathleen Turner. The Christmas shake-up leaves Chichester's new production board chaired by Lord Young of Graffham, former Tory Trade and Industry Minister and confidante of ex Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In tandem with the management shake-up came £300,000 worth of financial relief from the local authority. The new board hopes to be able to mount a 1998 season.
