Shared Experience Makes West End Debut

Date: 1 November 1999

The acclaimed Shared Experience theatre company makes its West End debut this month with a revival of Polly Teale's production of Jane Eyre which opens at the Ambassadors on 25 November 1999, following previews from 23 November, and continues until 24 December.

Shared Experience has earnt a reputation for its conversion of classic literature into modern stage productions. Its recent outings include acclaimed productions of Anna Karenina and The House of Bernarda Alba. Jane Eyre was originally presented at the fringe Young Vic theatre in 1997.

Jane is plain, poor and obscure, but locked up in the attic of her imagination is a woman so delirious with desire that she's a danger to herself and the outside world. In this production, Teale strives to draw out the links between Jane and Bertha, Rochester's mad wife, and to unleash a psychological battle between Jane's fiery nature and her strict Victorian upbringing.

Jane Eyre is designed by Neil Warmington with lighting design by Chris Davey, company movement by Liz Ranken and original music composed by Peter Salem. After the Ambassadors run, the production will tour India before final performances in New York in February 2000.
