Date: 24 August 2000

The West End's annual Kids Week kicks off this Friday, 25 August and continues to 1 September, coinciding with the last week of school summer holidays. During Kids Week 2000, supported by American Express, thousands of children from all over the country will be able to experience top-quality, West End shows free of charge.

Kids (aged 5 to 16 years) and their parents can choose from a range of musicals including Blood Brothers, Buddy, Cats, Chicago, La Cava>, The King and I, Les Miserables, The Pirates of Penzance, The Phantom of the Opera, Whistle Down The Wind and The Witches of Eastwick, as well as plays such as Art, A Busy Day, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Woman in Black, and House and Garden.

To claim the free ticket, each child must be accompanied by a full paying adult. Up to two additional children can also attend for just half-price. Kids Week tickets have been allocated for all performances, but bookings are subject to availability.

During Kids Week, children can also eat for free at participating West End restaurants, including Maxwell's, Planet Hollywood, Navajo Joe and the Hard Rock Café. And children travelling from out of London with their family can take advantage of free rail travel and accommodation with tour operator Superbreak.

In addition to theatre performances, a variety of special free events and workshops have also been organised as part of the Week. Full details can be found at www.kidsweek.co.uk.
