Prokofiev Festival OpensDate: 24 November 1997 The London Philharmonic Orchestra s Prokofiev Festival opens tomorrow at the South Bank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. Sergei Prokofiev was born in Imperial Russia in 1891, two years before the death of Tchaikovsky and shortly after the passing of Liszt and Wagner. When he himself died 62 years later, he left behind a body of work which embraced the early days of two evolving art forms, ballet and film. Devised by LPO artistic director and chief executive Serge Dorny, this week's festival reflects the versatility and vibrancy of Prokofiev's output over four decades and includes opera, film scores, symphonies, ballets and concert os. A number of Russian artists are involved in the event as well as actor Simon Callow and conductor Carl Davis. An exhibition of photographs and documents from the Prokofiev Archive will run concurrently. Call the Festival Hotline on 0171 546 1666 for more information. Related Content
