Full Casting Announced for King & I RevivalDate: 14 April 2000Full casting has now been announced for the big-budget revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I which arrives in the West End next month. The production opens at the London Palladium on 3 May 2000, following previews from 18 April 2000. In addition to stars Elaine Paige, who plays Anna Leonowens, and American-born Jason Scott Lee, making his British stage debut as the King, the production will feature Sean Ghazi (Lun Tha), Aura Deva (Tuptim), Ho Yi (Kralahome), Taewon Yi Kim (Lady Thiang), Robin Kermode (Sir Edward Ramsay) and Richard Avery (Captain Orton). The cast also includes Irene Alano, Khan Bonfils, Criselda Collis, Karen Cadogan, Raymond Chai, Jo Jo de la Cerna, Miguel M Diaz, Steven Eng, Su-Man Hsu, Yukiko Murakami, Azumi Ono, Oliver Pang, Anton Perez, Therese Rademark, Stephanie Reese, Gina Respall, Samart Santhaveesnik, Ayako Shimizu, Gina Tse and Unku. This sumptuous new production of The King and I originated in Australia in 1991, before opening in 1996 on Broadway, where it had a two-year run. The production won four Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards and two Theatre World Awards. First produced in 1951, The King and I is based on the novel 'Anna and the King of Siam' by Margaret Landon and has music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The new production has choreography by Jerome Robbins, musical staging by Lar Lubovitch, scenic design by Brian Thomson, costume design by Roger Kirk and lighting by Nigel Levings. Orchestrations are by Robert Russell Bennett, with additional orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and musical supervision and direction by John Owen Edwards. It's directed by Christopher Renshaw.
