London Premiere for 1926 Noel Coward play, Semi-Monde, opens Mar 14Date: 27 December 2000
Semi-Monde, a 1926 play by Noel Coward that only received its world premiere in 1977, four years after its author's death, is to finally be seen in London, opening at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue on Mar 14 (following previews from Mar 7).
Philip Prowse, artistic director of Glasgow's Citizens Theatre who staged the 1977 premiere there, will direct and design this production, featuring a cast of 28 actors including Nichola McAuliffe, John Carlisle, Sophie Ward, Ben Bates, Georgina Hale and Beth Cordingley.
The play, set in the cocktail bar of the Ritz Hotel in the years between the two World Wars, follows the guests as they slip from one relationship to another, seemingly oblivious to the world outside.
Prowse has previously directed Coward's The Vortex in the West End, starring Maria Aitken and Rupert Everett, in 1989.
