Shaw to Play Jean Brodie at RNT Date: 6 February 1998
Actress Fiona Shaw returns to the Royal National Theatre this summer in a newly revised version of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, to be directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The 1966 Jay Presson Allen play, adapted from the novel by Muriel Spark, will open 25 June in the RNT's Lyttleton Theatre, with previews from 19 June. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, also a well-known film, tells the story of an eccentric Scottish teacher who is both a positive and negative influence upon her students. Shaw has recently appeared in the RNT production of T.S.Eliot's The Waste Land and is also well known for her previous work in the RNT's Richard II in which she played the monarch. No other casting decisions have yet been announced.
