Mamet to Appear for Neighborhood Premiere

Date: 27 May 1998

The Royal Court has announced that American playwright David Mamet will feature in the London run of his latest play, The Old Neighborhood, which receives its European premiere at the Royal Court Downstairs (Duke of York's) on 23 June (previews from 17 June). The Old Neighborhood finished its run at Broadway's Booth Theatre earlier this month after 197 performances (plus 10 previews).

Mamet is scheduled for an onstage platform discussion before the evening performance of The Old Neighborhood on 16 July.

Through a trio of inter-related acts, The Old Neighborhood follows newly divorced Bobby who tries to navigate a mid-life crisis by revisiting the people and places of his past which continue to cast shadows over the present.

The cast includes Olivier award-winner Zoe Wanamaker with Colin Stinton, Linal Haft, Vincent Marzello and Diana Quick. Patrick Marber, whose own play Closer continues to play at the Lyric Theatre, directs.

David Mamet s plays include Oleanna and Edmond (staged by the Royal Court in 1993 and 1985, respectively); Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo, Speed-the-Plow and Cryptogram.
