Royal Opera House Wins £2m Reprieve Date: 1 August 1997
The Royal Opera House has been rescued from insolvency by a £2m emergency loan from anonymous benefactors. The news was revealed this week during hearings before a Commons committee investigating an ROH operating deficit of £4.5m. Lord Chadlington, chairman of the ROH, said that the £2m was only a loan until 2000 and that 'day to day trading remains very precarious'.
