Casting Announced for Whistle Down the Wind

Casting has been announced for Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest musical Whistle Down the Wind which will open at the Aldwych Theatre on Wednesdy 1 July (previews from 17 June).

Marcus Lovett and Lottie Mayor, who premiered Whistle Down the Wind at Lloyd Webber's Sydmonton Festival, will star in the West End production as The Man and Swallow. Both have had Lloyd Webber experience in Aspects of Love - Mayor in the West End production and Lovett (as Alex) on Broadway. American Lovett will make has West End debut in the new show.

The cast will also include Gerard Bentall, Anthony Cable, Nicolas Colicos, Dean Collinson, Vikki Coote, Carol Duffy, Reg Eppey, Laurel Ford, James Graeme, Veronica Hart, Christopher Howard, Rosalind James, Paul Lowe, Jason McCann, Jayne Nesbitt, Craig Parkinson, Mark Powell, Jean Reeve, Walter Reynolds, Michael Samuels, Tony Stansfield, Rohan Tickell, John Turner and Sara West. Two teams of ten children, aged between nine and fourteen, will alternate performances.

Whistle Down the Wind, with music by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Jim Steinman, is based on the novel by Mary Hayley Bell and the film produced by Richard Attenborough and directed by Bryan Forbes. The original story has been reset in Louisiana in 1959.

The production is directed by Gale Edwards, who has previously worked with Lloyd Webber on Aspects of Love and the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. Choreography is by Anthony Van Laast, who worked on Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance and the revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the London Palladium.
