Firth & McGovern Return for More Days of Rain

Date: 9 June 1999

Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain returns to the Donmar Warehouse in November following its sell-out three-week run in March as part of the theatre's American Imports season. Film stars Colin Firth, Elizabeth McGovern, along with David Morrissey, will recreate their roles in the drama. The production will re-open at the Donmar on 9 November 1999 and continue until 22 January 2000.

The play, critically lauded when it premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1998, explores the secrets passed from one generation to the next. When two architecture partners die, they leave their children the mysterious legacy of a house they designed. The past, including an inexplicable diary entry containing the words 'three days of rain', is delved and re-interpreted until the audience is taken back to the earlier generation (played by the same three actors) to discover the truth.

The cast for Three Days of Rain is headed by Hollywood film star, now resident in the UK, Elizabeth McGovern who is joined by British film star Colin Firth and David Morrissey. McGovern's film credits include The Wings of a Dove, The Handmaid's Tale, Racing with the Moon, Once Upon a Time in America and Ragtime. Prior to Three Days of Rain, she appeared most recently on stage in the 1997 Peter Hall production of Hurlyburly at the Old Vic.

Firth made his first return to the stage in five years in Three Days of Rain. He's well known for his TV and film roles in Pride and Prejudice, Fever Pitch and Shakespeare in Love. His last stage role was in Chatsky at the Almeida Theatre in 1994. Morrissey is well known to British television audiences for his roles in Our Mutual Friend and Holding On. He stars in the current feature film Hilary and Jackie.

Three Days of Rain is directed by Robin Lefevre and designed by Tom Piper, with lighting by David Plater and sound by Rob Tory.
