ENO Introduces Opera Open Days Date: 8 September 1997
In a bid to make opera less elitist and more affordable, the English National Opera will introduce open days this season which will conclude with pay-what-you-can performances. For some groups, such as students and pensioners, tickets will be free. Details of the open days are still being finalised, but they're likely to occur on two Saturdays next year and involve productions of La Boheme and Carmen. In addition to cheap seats, the open days will allow visitors to tour the Coliseum theatre throughout the day, go back stage and view rehearsals, creating a type of 'operatic fairground'.
