Rodgers & Hammerstein Tribute Tours UK
Date: 1 February 2000

Something Wonderful, a musical tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, kicks off on an eight-week, 30-city national tour tomorrow. Starring Liz Robertson and Dave Willetts, the show opens in Canterbury and continues until 29 March 2000 when it closes in Guildford.

Something Wonderful incorporates a collection of songs from some of the best known musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein, including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music as well as lesser known songs from works such as Pipe Dream, State Fair and Me and Juliet. The evening, featuring a full company of performers and musicians, is directed by Hugh Wooldridge and choreographed by Gillian Gregory.

Robertson's many West End and Broadway credits include My Fair Lady, Song and Dance, Dance a Little Closer, The King and I, The Music Man and Stepping Out.

Willetts has played the lead West End roles of both Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables and the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, the first person in the world to have performed both. His other credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Follies, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George.

Something Wonderful was initially entitled A Grand Night for Singing and was originated by Tony Award-winning director Walter Bobbie, who directed current hits Chicago and Fosse on Broadway. It was first performed at New York's Roundabout Theater before moving to Broadway where it received two Tony Award nominations for Best Musical and Best Book.
