2 Pianos 4 Hands Scales into Comedy, 7 Oct

The Canadian hit Two Pianos Four Hands transfers to the West End in October, following favourable reviews at its British premiere at the Birmingham Rep earlier this year. It opens at the Comedy Theatre on 7 October 1999 (previews from 5 October).
In Two Pianos Four Hands, actors and musicians Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt follow the lives of two aspiring young musical talents during their formative years. Recalling the lessons, examinations and daily rituals, Dykstra and Greenblatt play a range of characters, from the struggling adolescent pupils to the overbearing parents and the eccentric, sometimes inspiring, music teachers.
The comic action around two lifetimes obsession with 88 piano keys also provides plenty of opportunity to pound away on the two grand pianos which feature in the show - with the duo playing favourites from Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and, on a more modern note, Billy Joel.
Two Pianos Four Hands is created by Dykstra and Greenblatt, directed by Jeremy Sams and produced by David and Ed Mirvish, in association with Paul Elliott and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Before coming to Britain, the show enjoyed critically acclaimed runs in Toronto and on Broadway.
Another North American transfer, the musical revue on relationships I Love You, You re Perfect, Now Change, is currently playing at the Comedy. It closes on 2 October.
