Dame Edna's Spectacle Runs Out of SteamDate: 8 May 1998Dame Edna Everage hasn't had a major show in the West End in a decade and her latest offering isn't hanging around for long. New Edna: The Spectacle opened 21 April (with previews from 14 April) and was expected to run at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket into October but, having failed to make much of an impact on reviewers or audiences, it will be closing next month, 27 June 1998, after only 10 weeks. Edna's creator, comedian Barry Humphries, leads the The Spectacle which sketches the history of the fictitious Edna, her husband Norm and silent sidekick Madge Allsop, as well as providing a full actful of the Dame's brew of stand up comedy and audience-baiting. Humphreys also appears with cameos of some of his other characters including the salivating Les Patterson and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. There is no other engagement booked at the Haymarket until comedian Jasper Carrot in October. Contact the Haymarket box office on +44-171-930-8800 for further information. Related Content |
