Manchester Dreaming Comes to West End
Date: 19 May 1999

Peter Barnes' latest play transfers to the West End next month for a limited five-week season. Dreaming opens at the Queen's Theatre on 15 June (following previews from 10 June) and continues until 17 July 1999. The play had its world premiere on 18 March at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre.

Set in the bloody aftermath of the War of the Roses, Dreaming follows an unlikely and damaged group of individuals, led by Captain John Mallory, in the pursuit of their dreams against the wishes of the scheming Richard of Gloucester, the future king.

Peter Barnes' previous work for the stage includes The Ruling Class, Red Noses, the Bewitched and Laughter. His film work includes screenplays for The Ruling Class and The Enchanted April. Dreaming is directed by Matthew Lloyd and stars RSC veterans Gerard Murphy and Dilys Laye.

The production of Macbeth, starring Rufus Sewell and Sally Dexter, currently at the Queen's, finishes its run on 5 June. Dreaming is followed by Lenny, Julian Barry's biopic of comedian Lenny Henry, starring Eddie Izzard.
