Ravenhill Premiere Misses Edinburgh
Date: 8 July 1999

The premiere of Mark Ravenhill's new play, Some Explicit Polaroids, has been delayed by two months. The new piece from the Shopping and F***ing author, directed by Max Stafford-Clark for Out of Joint, was scheduled to premiere next month at the Traverse Theatre during the Edinburgh Fringe festival before a brief regional tour and a five-week West End run at the Ambassadors. But Ravenhill is said to be unhappy with the current script and wants more time to perfect it. It will now premiere at the Ambassadors in mid-October.

Another Out of Joint production, Drummers, a new play by Simon Bennett, will premiere instead at Edinburgh and follow the touring en route to West End course intended for Some Explicit Polaroids.

In an interview with The Stage newspaper, Stafford-Clark, who also directed Shopping and F***ing, underplayed the significance of the Ravenhill delay. 'It seems an inconvenience, but it is the best decision,' he said. 'You always run this risk with new work.'

Some Explicit Polaroids follows five journeys across a global village where media magnates, celebrities and traders conduct business unrestrained by national boundaries and restaurants, hotels, airports and theme parks increasingly look the same worldwide. It opens at the Ambassadors 14 October 1999 (previews from 13 October) and continues until 20 November.

Drummers will open at the Ambassadors on 6 September (previews from 1 September) and continues until 9 October. The black comedy tells the story of two brothers who work as house-breakers, otherwise known as 'drummers'. Now that he's out of jail, brother Ray is determined to find out who stitched him up and settle the score.
