McPherson's Weir Extends Run By Three WeeksDate: 5 March 1998The Royal Court has extended its run of Conor McPherson's The Weir by three weeks to 18 April 1998. The 26-year-old, Irish writer's third play, The Weir was first seen in the Royal Court's smaller Theatre Upstairs venue last year before re-opening last month in the larger Theatre Downstairs (resident at the Duke of York's while the Royal Court's Sloane Square home is renovated). The Royal Court's new artistic director Ian Rickson directs the original cast, with one new addition, in the subtle tale set in a country Irish pub where the talk turns to ghost stories one evening. McPherson won the 1997 Evening Standard Award and the Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer for which is his first dialogue-based work. His two earlier plays - The Lime Tree Bower and St Nicholas, both debuted at the Bush Theatre - were monologues. Related Content |
