Berkoff Plays Shakespeare's Villains

Steven Berkoff's new one-man show is scheduled for a limited six-week run at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket from 30 June 1998.

In Shakespeare's Villains: A Masterclass in Evil, Berkoff once again holds the stage alone, this time with his exploration and analysis of Shakespeare's most villainous characters - Iago, the Macbeths, Shylock, Richard III.. characters who are inherently evil, others whose situation leads them to evil deeds, others at the mercy of an evil society.

A well-versed actor, writer and director, Berkoff is known to many for the villains he's played in mainstream films such as Octopussy, Beverly Hills Cop, Rambo and The Krays.

Shakespeare's Villains follows Dame Edna Everage's latest production, New Edna: The Spectacle! which closes 27 June after disappointing reviews. The next show scheduled at the Haymarket - Tom Stoppard's Invention of Love - will not open until 4 November 1998. Invention, which explores the private life of poet A.E. Housman, transfers to the Haymarket after a critically acclaimed run at the National Theatre.

Booking for Shakespeare's Villains opens Monday, 22 June.
