Stomp is coming home!Date: 19 August 1998
Stomp, the international phenomenon which has been running successfully at Off-Broadway's Orpheum Theatre since February 1994, is finally returning to Britain, for a run at the recently re-opened Roundhouse Theatre in North London's Camden district.
The show, which began on the streets of the Britain's south coast seaside town of Brighton in 1991 where its creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas would give free outdoor performances in return for whatever loose change audiences might throw at them, has since earned them a great deal more than mere change. After the first full production of the evolving show was given at London's Bloomsbury Theatre (a small, Off-West End space), it was subsequently seen on the Edinburgh Fringe, and later was seen at London's Royal Court Theatre and Sadler's Wells, before transferring to New York.
It has yet, however, to have an open-ended run in Britain. The return season is only booked for November 17 through December 27. Box Office: 0171-420 0171.
