Dame Maggie Weaves Box Office GoldDate: 23 October 1997Edward Albee s A Delicate Balance may be more than thirty years old, but it's selling out faster than the latest, hot, new musical - thanks in no small part to its star, Dame Maggie Smith. According to producer Robert Fox , the box office at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, where the play opened this week, had taken more than £750,000 in advanced bookings before a single review even hit the newstands. This represents an extraordinary start for a non-musical in the West End. Initial audiences have also been remarkable for their own star quality - playwright David Hare, designer Nicole Farhi, director Howard Davies and actresses Sheila Gish, Joan Plowright and Nanette Newman have already pitched up to see Dame Maggie in action. Read the What's On Stage review which will be posted later this week. Related Content |
