Oh! What a Night Discos into West End, 5 Aug

Date: 17 June 1999

Yet another 70s compilation musical is heading to the West End. Oh What a Night, starring pop singer Kid Creole and soap stars Will Mellor and John Altman, will open at the mammoth 3,500 seat Apollo Hammersmith on 5 August (previews from 27 July) for a limited six-week season. It follows the stage adaptation of Leslie Bricusse's musical Doctor Dolittle, starring Philip Schofield, which finishes its 14-month run at the theatre on 28 June.

Mellor, best known as Jambo in TV's teen soap Hollyoaks, plays Rik, a young English wannabe pop star in New York, who runs up against baddie bar manager Rocco, played by Altman, who is also well known to British television audiences as bad boy Nick Cotton in EastEnders.

Oh What a Night features a slew of 70s disco classics including 'Celebration', 'YMCA', 'Love Train', 'Blame It on the Boogie', 'Car Wash', 'Disco Inferno', 'When I Need You' and 'Ladies Night'. It is choreographed by Kim Gavin, a former choreographer of pop group Take That, who also directs.

Oh What a Night this week completes its sell-out run at Manchester's Opera House where it opened on 8 April.
