Boyband Dances into West End this June

Boy bands such as Take That, E17 and Boyzone have dominated the UK's pop music scene for the past several years, and now the backlash has started. Following the successful Channel Four TV spoof documentary, Boys Unlimited, about an unlikely quartet of teen boys who make it big, the musical Boyband is now coming to the stage.
The new musical by Peter Quilter, which claims to “blow the lid off the current boy band phenomenon” receives it world premiere at the The Derby Playhouse on 16 April. It continues at Derby until 8 May before transferring to the West End in early June 1999. A London venue is yet to be confirmed.
Boyband combines the talents of many of those in the know in the music industry, including: Phil Griffin (creative consultant), who has choreographed pop tours for E17 and directed videos for 911 and Billie; Aron Friedman (producer/ writer/ remixer), who is responsible for some of the most influential club records of the past five years as well as chart-topping mixes for Michelle Gayle, Alexander O Neal and Take That; Steve Levine (producer/ writer), producer of Culture Club's multi-platinum albums, a Beach Boys album and, more recently, producer of 911 and Honeyz; Nicky Graham (producer/ writer), whose credits include numerous hits from Bros, PJ & Duncan, N Tyce and Peter Andre; and Tina Matthews (music consultant) who managed Blair's Have Fun Go Mad.
The show follows the fortunes of five young guys thrust into the goldfish bowl of pop stardom with a band called Freedom and includes 16 new pop tracks. The band members are played by Daniel Crossley, Kevin Andre, Damien Flood, Tom Ashton and Stepps. Boyband is directed by Peter Rowe whose other West End credits include Return to the Forbidden Planet and Blood Brothers.
