Report Released on Arts Council & ROH Date: 8 October 1997
A summary of the long-awaited report on the relationship between the Arts Council and the Royal Opera House was released yesterday. The report largely exonerates the two bodies but concludes that financial management of the ROH needs to be improved and that “difficulties and tensions” in the relationship remain. The Arts Council commissioned the independent report which was ordered by Culture Secretary Chris Smith after a former Arts Council secretary-general was appointed chief executive of the ROH earlier this year. Already, questions have been raised as to why the entire report has not been released.
